My Students

I am a fourth grade teacher and have forty-four wonderful students. I am determined to teach them how to love reading books this school year. "Reading is to the mind as exercise is to the body". My class consists of students from many different socioeconomic backgrounds. There are students in my classroom who don't have print-rich homes. They do not have the opportunity to pick up a good book or magazine and enjoy some quiet time reading.

Some of my students are performing in the lowest twenty-fifth percent and are below grade level.

This year I will change that number by teaching my students the joy of reading.

My Project

My students love to read however a lot of our books are out of date and not popular choices. These books will help my students have a more broad selection that are popular and on their reading level.

My goal is to help all students LOVE reading and through popular books choices, I know this can happen.

Data shows that when students are reading each day, standardized test scores increase and a love for reading also occurs. Teachers also need books too and professional development books are also a key to learning new trends in education.

My students are also departmentalized and switch classes. Because our classroom is a little small, my students would love to get more organized by having seat pockets to organize their belongings. This will also help build organizational skills and keep the students on task.

Any amount would be greatly appreciated and not only this years class, but students in the upcoming years will utilize these new books.
