Our classroom services students who have a wide range of disabilities. They range from developmental disabilities to autism to auditory and visual disabilities. Due to the nature of these disabilities, we NEVER have a typical day. We are always doing fun and different.
My students, though they are special needs students, come to class each and every day with a willingness and want to learn.
While, our school is located in very low socio-economic area, the students do not let their situation bring them down. They come in and count on me to teach them. Because of the location of the school and the disabilities that they have, each one of these students are batting an uphill battle. They each come to school with such a positive attitude despite the hands that they have been dealt. We have a very close knit school community and everyone works together to ensure that everyone is taken care of.
My Project
Over the course of our day, we use different learning modalities. By using the 4 learning styles, visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), kinesthetic (moving), and tactile (touching) my students are able to gain information at a higher rate. During our day, we work on communication skills and many of the students have difficulties with understanding some of the information due to their disability (many have auditory disabilities). We use many different programs to help teach and generalize these skills. By receiving the wireless speakers that have been requested, my students will have an easier time grasping the concepts that are being taught. The speakers will be used in conjunction with out tablet. They will be used for both individual instruction as well as whole class instruction. These speakers will help my students with both life skills as well as academics.
By getting these materials donated to my classroom, the students will be gaining more opportunities to increase the knowledge that is necessary for them to become productive members of our society.
Many of my students have a difficult time grasping many academic and life skill, and these material will make it easier for them to understand.
