Hi! My name is Ms. R and I'm a lucky 8th grade Social Studies teacher. From 2015-2016, I had the incredible opportunity to begin my teaching career with students who would change my life.
My school's population is made up of ambitious, empathetic, and remarkably bright young individuals who will change the world.
Even further, we are known for having one of the most diverse school populations in NJ! In just my first year, I found my students who were passionate about human rights, sports, the arts, and more.
In addition to teaching eighth grade Social Studies, I work with students sixth-eighth through a club I helped pilot for the first time: Students for Social Change. The club is a student-led club where students have the ability to work towards positive social change they are passionate about.
My Project
For the upcoming school year (+ all the years beyond!), I'd like to provide all of my students the opportunity to benefit from the possibilities and advantages that come with visual learning.
We live in a time where visuals are essential to how young people make sense of the world, so I want to assure all my students have access to such opportunities.
As of now, I have a projector, however it is unreliable and its images are difficult to see for all my students. For instance, in order to have images/videos show clearly, it has to be pitch dark in the classroom. As a result, whenever students wanted to take notes during videos/images/peer presentations, it was hard to see. I integrate a lot of videos and images in my classroom, therefore I feel it is imperative that my students--this year and beyond--do not have to squint and shout "Ms. R it's blurry!" etc. I truly believe my kids deserve better when they come to my classroom!
