I am a teacher in a classroom of 12 Pre-K students. This is an inclusive classroom with half of the students being typically developing and half being students with special needs. All of my students have been identified as "at risk" in some way. Most of my students, along with myself, and my teacher assistant were directly impacted and/or displaced from our homes by hurricane Florence in September. Our classroom is a safe place for my children when the rest of their worlds have been turned upside down.
My Project
If my project is fully funded, we will have the chance to add some amazing, hands on and developmentally appropriate STEM materials to our classroom. Our classroom needs to come alive for these children and help motivate them to be creative, think outside the box, and discover the world around them. We will use these materials everyday during centers where we explore and learn and grow. We will use the also Duplo building sets to create structures, imagine with friends, and expand on ideas. We will use the sensory tubes in our science and discovery center, and these also help with calming children who are overwhelmed or over stimulated. These children have been through a lot and deserve some exciting new materials and fun activities to keep their little minds active and engaged in a world that can sometimes be confusing to them..
