Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our school are one a kind! These students deal with so much in their personal lives but come to school daily with smiles on their faces and an enthusiasm to learn. We have around 360 students at our school and over 70% of our population at our school is socioeconomically disadvantaged but that doesn’t stop our kids from setting and working towards meeting their goals.
The students at our school truly show a love for life and a love for learning.
They love learning new things and exploring the unknown. Our goal is to have our students be scholarly WILDCATS:
Well Rounded
Imaginative
Literate
Determined
Challenged
Accepting
Team players
Successful
We strive to have our students learn through multiple intelligences by integrating art in all subjects, having students participate in NGSS connected experiments, offering music and visual art classes to students, and much more. We are striving to have our students not only enjoy being at school but also obtaining a well rounded education that meets and supports their needs.

My Project
In my class, I have several students who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling. I was recently trained in Orton-Gillingham Phonics, a multisensory approach to teaching that will help me to address the diverse needs of all of the students in my class. This approach provides students an opportunity to learn using a variety of senses and taps into their multiple intelligences. It allows students to develop foundational reading and writing skills in a systematic way. These tools are especially helpful for learners who might be dyslexic!
In order to effectively implement the program, there are some essential materials that I need, however, purchasing them would use my entire classroom budget for the year.
The materials that I am requesting would allow the students to develop their reading, writing and spelling skills using a hands-on approach. My hope is that with the full implementation of this program, my students who are struggling in reading and writing will make tremendous growth in their skills. Your donation would allow me to purchase these items and make this academic growth possible.
