Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine being four years old, bursting with creative energy, and not being able to create art? My students have so many amazing ideas, but we do not have the resources to make their vision come alive.
Twenty-two fabulous four and five year olds come to my classroom each morning, eager and excited to learn.
The look on their faces when they learn something new is simply priceless. Their eyes literally light up! I teach Kindergarten 1, or pre-kindergarten, in a Title I public school. Our school is located in an urban, poverty stricken community. Many of my students are English Language Learners with very limited English vocabularies. The children do not always have amazing materials at home or access to enrichment programs outside of school like their suburban peers do.
My Project
Our classroom has an art area, but the shelf that organizes our materials is broken and sits at a precarious angle. We are also completely out of construction paper, and our fingerpaint molded over the summer!
I am requesting two beautiful new birch shelves to house our art materials. We will use the top of the shelf to display the children's work such as sculptures made with found materials. I am requesting a new set of fingerpaints to allow children to experiment with texture and blending colors. I am also requesting construction paper in all colors and drawing paper.
Our district has been forced to make major cutbacks and is unable to supply the materials we need.
I have also stretched my personal resources thin and am unable to purchase these wonderful materials.
Your donation will truly impact my students' lives by exposing them to artistic experiences, increasing their self esteem, allowing them to explore, and enabling them to take pride in their learning. Thank you so much!
