Help me give my students the opportunity to observe the miracle of life! I would like to purchase a Chickbator (chick incubator) for our classroom, a hands-on life cycle exploration kit, and book about life inside an egg!
We are a lower elementary Montessori classroom in a small town! We are a mixed level classroom, which means the students are in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. These children are bright, inquisitive, independent and energetic!
These children are incredible problem solvers and believe they are capable of anything!
Our literacy levels range from non-readers (yet) to non-stop readers! There are some students who are learning to count to 100, and some that are multiplying mixed fractions. Each student is given the freedom within limits to develop at their own pace, pursuing their own interests. These children enjoy and thrive with the many hands-on opportunities provided in our school.
They understand the bond between humans and nature beyond their years and care deeply about preserving our most precious natural resources! They are overall an amazing group of learners and I am blessed to be their teacher!
My Project
A science project like this is one students will remember for their entire lives, I know I did!
Caring for a helpless, little egg and being there the moment it hatches is something these children will never forget!
It will help connect them with nature and understand the fragility of life and inspire them to be responsible caregivers in the future.
The idea for this project came from the intense care and interest the children have shown in my own pregnancy. A project like this, at this time, would be seizing a very teachable moment! The students are incredibly curious about developing life and would be overjoyed with this opportunity!
We have a classroom friend who has agreed to adopt our chicks so that we may continue to be observe and visit the babies as they grow.
