Help me give my students high interest station activities like Comprehension Centers, Finding Evidence Kits, Fluency Card Banks, and Word Building Tiles to to aid in reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and fluency.
I teach elementary, exceptional student education at a Title I public school in Hernando, Florida. We are a high poverty school, and we are growing in our numbers. However, we are working to reach each student and motivate them to fulfill their potential. We want to inspire our students to rise above the norm and become not just a better student but a better person.
I find myself constantly telling my students to rise above because we simply don't quit.
We become problem solvers and we figure out how to change our paradigm to become a better student and a better person. We learn what it means and how to become a high achiever. Most of my students come from low-income families, and do not have many educational resources at home. They are below grade level in reading and math, and struggle to gain confidence in those subjects. My students are creative, energetic, and inquisitive. They strive to learn at the same level as their peers and need extra resources in order to gain confidence in their academic ability.
My Project
The majority of my students are at least two grade levels below in their reading skills. Most of them struggle with word studies, comprehension skills, and fluency. During their time with me, I want to bring highly-engaging materials to help boost their reading comprehension skills, fluency, and vocabulary acquisition. I am requesting activities like Boost Comprehension! Small-Group Teaching Centers, Finding Evidence Kits, Comprehension Centers, Fluency Card Bank, Finding the Evidence Clips, and Prefix and Suffix Word Tiles. In these activities the students will be able to practice their comprehension skills of summarizing, making inferences, finding the main idea etc. They will also be challenged as they practice the skill of finding text evidence and citing from the text in order to develop reasoning for their answers.
As their ESE teacher, I want to inspire my students to love reading.
I feel the way that can be accomplished is by providing them fun interactive activities that will also help them gain the skills they need to not only passed their tests but to be successful citizens in the future.
