Students at my school are energetic, gregarious, and determined. They are always looking to jump into the next friendship and learning opportunity. They love science, math, and reading. Many students do struggle to master our rigorous third-grade math objectives.
As students begin to develop a better understanding of math concepts, they also begin to love learning and math!
Classes are diverse and we like it this way! We share and respect different backgrounds. We support each other as we grow in our learning.
Typically, I have about 25 students in my class. Rosters will be released in mid-August. Classes are comprised of an integration of mainstream and exceptional students including gifted students, students with learning disabilities, students who have experienced trauma, and students who speak languages other than English at home. We are an urban school. Many students come from single-parent or blended families.
My Project
These Daily Math Journals will allow students time to independently struggle with and put to use new math strategies and concepts. Third graders need this additional practice and problem-solving time in order to master difficult and crucial 3rd-grade math skills. In addition, these journals give students daily opportunities to apply math concepts in a new format and in multiple ways.
These journals will provide much-needed practice and help students gain mastery of our challenging 3rd-grade math standards.
Students will use these journals daily to practice computation, operations, algebraic thinking, geometry, multi-step word problems, measurement, data analysis, and much more.
