My Students

My students come to my school for a second chance. Our center teaches at-risk youth in Citrus County, FL. Students are in grades 6-12 and receive education credits in addition to behavior modification support, to help them be successful when they transition back to their base school. Most of our kids struggle academically and benefit from flexible arrangements, such as seating and workspaces. Children often come from low-income homes and lack stability in their home environment. Often times there is an underlying reason why the student was sent to our program. We aim to address all students needs, not just education.

My Project

A lot of our students require classroom accommodations to be successful and attend. The items in this project will benefit a selection of students who need extra support in order to focus. The items in this project will also help students engage more with lessons, rather than become uninterested and distracted. Fidget toys have proven to benefit students who require additional input in order to attend appropriately in class. The cart items will provide this to my students. Fun items like buzzers and Kleenslate whiteboards engage students more than a typical lecture situation. I want their education to work as hard for them as they work for it.
