Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I school providing a high-quality education to our students. My students are an ethnically diverse group, with over 12 different languages spoken in my classes alone and over 80 languages district-wide. All of my students speak English as a second language, at varying proficiencies. Despite the many hardships they face at home the students are eager to learn in my classroom.
My class is a place where students feel safe to express themselves, work collaboratively, and push the boundaries on their educational abilities.
As my students learn more about science I get to watch them bloom into young adults, ready and prepared for “the real world”.
My Project
Help AP and Regular Students Measure Weather and Water Quality!
Help augment worn out/dated weather equipment!
We are trying to replace tired sling psychrometers, demagnetized compasses and inadequate anemometers to measure relative humidity and wind speed/direction. Students will be able to understand the weather man's information when they see it on the internet or TV! Over the course of a week, they will measure temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, dew point, cloud percent, type, and cover, and inches/cm of precipitation.
Also included in the requests are replacement chemicals for both the aquariums and water quality labs. Students will measure nitrate and phosphate, compounds known to cause eutrophication in lakes, rivers, and streams.
