I primarily teach 7-12 Choir, but I also teach 5-6 Grade General Music. I want to give my students the ability to find what they are passionate about, music or otherwise. Being a part of a choir can be a great opportunity for students to feel welcome and a part of something special while they are at school.
Music can give students a reason to want to stay in school and be successful.
If I can help them to feel at home, while also teaching them various aspects of music (history, theory, vocal training, team-work, new experiences, open-mindedness, etc.) I will have accomplished what I want to as a teacher.
Our students have recently competed in their first ever National Choral Competition. They received 3 trophies and plaques but we have no where to put them! Our school has a trophy case, but those are reserved only for sports teams.
Our school has no place to showcase the achievements of our Music Department.
With your help, we can put up a shelf in the common area of the school so that all visitors and other students will see that we are doing great things. This will help our community to see the important things we are doing, but more importantly will allow other students to see what they could be a part of.
