My students need sensory tools to be able to be ready to learn, the stroller will be used for safety evacuations, and the curriculum tools to better succeed.
In the morning, we do circle time where we work on the alphabet, numbers, seasons, shapes, weather, days of the week, and sing songs! We do some sensory tasks and independent work after. Since, we have a lot of different needs in the classroom each task has to be modified for each student.
The classroom is a K-2 intensive skills class with 12 amazing students.
They all have different needs and abilities and each student is unique. They are a very diverse and busy group of students. Some of my students are nonverbal and need some help with their mobility, while others are quite articulate and active. All of my students have disabilities and all of them deserve to have engaging and appropriate materials to help them succeed in the classroom.
My Project
The new materials will be awesome additions to our classroom and improve the engagement with the rest of their peers, but also foster independence and learning. My students are very sensory motivated so all the sensory toys will be used for sensory needs during sensory time which will help the students be ready to learn. The lap toys will be used for my students in wheelchairs with limited fine motor skills to improve their motor skills while engaging with the other students in the class. The stroller is a very important equipment that will be used for safety during drills and possible risks when the students might have to leave the classroom quickly and efficiently. The writing utensils and tracing paper will help the students to learn tracing of letter while also using a pencils that is larger which is easier to hold for some. The letter of the week pocket chart will be added to the daily literacy and integrated into the whole week including snacks, book reading, writing, etc.
Each of my students has different needs and all of have a different way of processing and learning.
Providing these materials will help prepare them to learn with engaging materials. Being a first year teacher, and with a yearly budget of $100 it doesn't help to get those materials that are needed to provide my students with a safe, engaging classroom environment.
