Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to learn. They have a thirst for knowledge, and they look forward to coming to school every day. I try my best to provide them with as many experiences as I can in the classroom, on the playground, and through books, field trips, technology and STEAM activities.
My students are wonderful, enthusiastic, third grade scholars!
Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in their family to complete high school and hopefully college, too.
Most of my students are English Language Learners. I have several students with learning disabilities, and I also mainstream several deaf and hard of hearing students into my all-inclusive classroom.
My Project
My students come to class with natural curiosity and a love for learning. I believe it’s important to continually seek out ways to engage and enrich my young scholars. They need to "breakout" of routine classroom activities to further develop the essential skills of collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.
All my students possess untapped brilliance in a myriad of skills they have yet to discover.
They need active, engaging, collaborative challenges to uncover their full potential and develop their growth mindset. The Breakout EDU kits consist of locks, boxes, and items used for immersive learning experiences. These “breakout” games can be used in all content areas and allow students to work as a team and apply academic knowledge to solve complex problems.
Learning through active play, struggling to solve puzzles through teamwork, synthesizing knowledge and critical thinking, are but a few of the trademarks of Breakout EDU games. When children are having fun, they want to be involved and learning occurs naturally. These “breakout” games take project-based, cooperative learning to the next level, and cultivate additional 21st century skills that will serve my students beyond school, into their careers and adulthood.
I look forward to incorporating the Breakout EDU kits with lots of activities that include STEM challenges, math puzzles, ELA games, etc. Please help bring this amazing resource to our classroom, knowing that students will be challenging themselves in ways they've never done before, with engagement like never before.
