My Students

My students are the future generation! In order for my students to be prepared for middle school, high school, and college, they must be well-informed. This school year we will focus on reading a variety of genres and text medias to get a better understanding of the world and current events.

My students are creative, curious, intelligent, and passionate about their education.

About 40% of my students are English language learners or have speech and language needs. Our school is located in a large, urban city in Northern California. My students come to school every day eager to learn and grow. They love learning! My students inspire me to be the best teacher I can be. My dream for my students is for them to receive an education that inspires them, engages them, encourages them to think critically, and prepares them to succeed in college. I believe that the addition of the TIME for Kids and Scholastic News magazines to our classroom will do just this.

My Project

TIME for Kids and Scholastic News magazines are excellent sources for understanding the world and current events that my students need exposure to. The magazines will enable my students not only to have knowledge of the world and current events, but to make informed decisions about it. Additionally, providing my students with access to these magazines is an excellent way for my students to gain exposure to non-fiction texts, which will foster the development of critical literacy skills. The issues in TIME for Kids and Scholastic News cover a wide range of real-world topics and themes that my students will love to explore. I envision using the magazines weekly for current event projects, paired reading activities, vocabulary development, and for research reports. The possibilities are endless!

Donating to this project will ensure that my students will gain access to news magazines that inspire a love of reading, critical thinking, and engagement in current events.

Additionally, your donation will contribute to my students' preparation for middle school, high school, college, and beyond as they learn crucial literacy skills.
