I have been teaching for 13 years, and have spend the last five years teaching English Language Learnings in second grade. I teach in a low-income community in Phoenix. I have spend my entire career at the same school, and have had many siblings over the years.
I am so excited that I will begin the next school year in first grade.
I will have 30 eager students in my class. I cannot wait to introduce them to the wonders of reading independently and for enjoyment!
I would like to update my classroom library to include non-fiction books for my new first graders. Since my students live in low-income community, they have limited knowledge and experiences outside of their every day lives. Many of my students have never even left the city of Phoenix. They have never experienced walking in a forest, or felt snow crunch under their feet.
Students need real and authentic non-fiction books to help them explore and learn about our amazing Earth.
They will have the opportunity learn about different animals, habitats, and other parts of nature different from their Phoenix neighborhood.
