I teach K-5, general music at a charter school in Utah. I get to see approximately six hundred students every week, which makes everyday the highlight of my week. I have observed many students supporting other students learning and caring for individuals who are struggling. The sense of community that exists in the school is astounding.
My students are full of energy, eager to learn and have a natural sense of curiosity; their thirst for knowledge inspires me to better myself as a teacher.
Every student brings a unique character into my classroom. Their love of learning makes every day special and meaningful.
My Project
Ukuleles are so fun and a great way to introduce melodies over chords. I plan to use ukuleles to engage my students in learning chords, harmonic relationships and reinforce melody versus accompaniment. Ukuleles have been used to teach and engage students in their learning.
I want to provide my students with lasting skills and memories of music.
I have fond memories of elementary school music. I remember playing games, singing songs and playing ukulele. Ukulele was the highlight of my experience in elementary school. We had so much fun and learned so much about how chords functioning with a melody. There is significant educational value in using ukuleles in our curriculum but the memories are what last.
