Student musicians at our school are recognized as high achievers and are committed to their academic learning. Through their creativity, curiosity, and musical exploration, they are respected as leaders and role models by their peers and teachers alike.
Our young musicians teach me every day about patience, compassion, and empathy as they develop their own identities and shape their own futures.
My challenge is to always find the most compelling ways to guide, nurture, and support my students in all of their endeavors, incorporating music as a powerful connector between their lives and the ever-changing world.
My Project
Many of our novice musicians are lured by the "celebrity" of brass instruments - there's something about the shiny appearance of a trumpet, the amusing sounds of a trombone's slide, or the heroic call of the French horn. Regardless, we want to provide our students (within our 3 concert bands) with the proper "set up" as a key element of brass techniques and practices.
All brass instruments need "TLC" to maximize their playing potential.
Valves and slides that are sticky, "frozen," or encrusted with layers of gunk will be huge obstacles for our young brass musicians. Students will be instructed on the importance of regular maintenance and cleaning routine with valve oil, rotor lubricant, and a mouthpiece brush.
One of the brass instruments with special appeal all its own is the tuba. (Talk about "heavy metal!") With the aid of a tuba stand, even our most petite tuba musicians will play their "oom-pah-pahs" with proper posture, breath support, and gusto!
