My Students

Obesity in the school and lack of interest in physical activities has increased within the school in past few years.

Our students are sixth through eight grade girls that are very concious about their outward appearance.

They attend a public school in rural Louisiana. Often times they come to us asking how to become more fit. Approximately 15% of our 400 female students are overweight.

My Project

We are requesting help with purchasing heart rate monitors for students in our physical education classes. The heart rate monitors will provide immediate information on the physical level that is healthy for each individual student. Students will be able to set their own goals within the healthy heart rate zone. Thus, students will be able to monitor their own progress and adjust their activity level.

Our project is important because students can choose a favorite activity that will help them reach their healthy heart rate zone so they may become more physically fit.

Lowering a teenage girls' body fat is important NOW for her overall health and well-being in the future.
