Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a Title 1 school like mine, resources are hard to come by and so is student engagement. My students receive free breakfast and free lunch, and often come to school tired, but eager to learn.
In a low socio-economic status neighborhood, there is a great mix of challenges, hardships, and most importantly, America's bright future.
Its not that the kids don't want to learn, that's all they want. Unfortunately, most come from homes that don't support learning or find the importance of education!
My Project
I have a lot of great center resources that require a pocket chart. These resources will reinforce their letter recognition skills and strengthen their reading skills; which is crucial for kindergarten! The resources allow them to be artistic as well. They have to match colors and letters together, when the assignment is done correctly it shows a beautiful picture! I really want them to start using this activity!
I love incorporating art into our daily lessons.
The pocket chart activities allow them to be artistic, but their minds will really go artsy at the easel.
I have time every day set aside for an arts and crafts project, and the easel will allow a new artistic medium to be introduced into art time!
