We are part of a rural low income community, where more than half our students are provided free or reduced-price meals. As a school community, we provide our students with everything we can, but need a little help in providing the few things that could help them to become happy, healthy adults.
My students are kind hearted and need help protecting those kind hearts.
Every year we participate in a big school fundraiser, raising money for the AHA. Our students and their huge hearts have helped raise a tremendous amount of money to help those in more need than themselves. These students deserve the ability to keep their own hearts healthy by tracking their own personal heart rates during PE class.
My Project
Physical Education is the one subject area that determines how long a person will live! It is the place where students gain the knowledge and tools they need to become active adults.
With today's technological advances, it is becoming easier for adults and children alike to be able to monitor their own fitness levels.
I am hoping that by providing these awesome heart rate monitor arm bands, that our students will be able to assess their daily activity while in P.E. class like never before. It is extremely difficult to figure out exactly how much physical activity a child is expending, but with these easy to use/kid friendly monitors, I think it will be immensely easier for both teacher and student to see exactly how hard they are working.
We as a school have adopted some new eating initiatives to help improve our school health, so we are making great changes in our program to better the overall health of our students. These heart rate monitors are another way for students to take ownership of their bodies.
