On a typical day we enter the classroom, turn in our folders, begin reading books of our choice until it is time to dive into reading, which often involves enjoying a repeated read aloud. This is supposed to be a cozy and enriching part of the day where we get to meet new characters or learn about new exciting places or things. My students love gathering together and sharing together and discussing things we read about. Throughout the day we gather at this special place to share, discuss, and just enjoy each other's company. You might say it is the heart of our classroom home.
"No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship." James Comer These words are so true and are a huge reason that the heart of our home is so important because it is often through these discussions and experiences we build relationships with each other.
My Project
We are in great need of a classroom carpet to make our gathering spot for many daily activities warm and inviting. We currently have foam tiles, but they are constantly coming apart and distracting us from our discussions and jobs. A classroom carpet would make our gathering spot more comfortable and cozy for our many classroom discussions, read alouds, and activities.
Our classroom carpet would be like our "magic carpet" that would help take us to exciting new places and meet interesting characters through text.
My 1st graders love to gather together for our lessons and being gathered in this way often increases their focus and helps to engage them in our task. Also, this is the area we spend time sharing and getting to know each other better, which helps to foster a loving and positive learning environment where students know they are special and loved. Your donation would help to make this gathering spot the best that it can be!
