This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in rural Aurora, N.C. and many of our students are economically disadvantaged. We are a very small school, one class per grade level, PreK through 8th. Currently, we have 166 students. The school has received a state school grade of C for the first time in seven years under my leadership.
Our students are well-behaved.
They work extremely hard to overcome deficiencies in reading and math. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
The use of headphones is almost a daily activity in the classroom during intervention time and stations. Students complete daily assessments in iReady, Reading Horizon, and other online diagnostic programs such as Reflex Math.
These programs assist teachers in identifying areas in which students need additional instruction.
Teachers can see exactly what students are doing, as well as provide targeted interventions. Headphones will reduce distractions for many of my students who have focusing issues as well as help students to focus/concentrate their lessons increasing their chance to master the learning!
