My Students
My fifth and sixth grade students enjoy reading just as much as I do. They consider read aloud time as a privilege. Students have actually begged for extra reading time. Additionally, students have forfeited study halls and recess for novel study.
I want my students to have the same passion for social studies, as they do for reading.
Quality literature, both fiction and nonfiction, brings drab history lessons to life. Students comprehend social studies through the lenses of dynamic characters. They breathe and feel history. What was once viewed as useless dates and events, alters their minds forever.
My Project
Who doesn't enjoy listening to stories? It is a rite of passage, so to speak. All over the world, children snuggle in their beds, eagerly awaiting for recitations of popular bedtime tales. These sentimental memories last a lifetime. That same euphoria can be experienced while learning about the past. Quality literature and audio books allow students to hear and to engage with meaningful literature. Vicariously, pupils witness history's trials and tribulations.
History leaps to life as student interpretations swirl words into unforgettable images, settings, characters and events.
They fall in love with various characters and eras. Students will never forget the past because they were there.
Please support my project. My students request more audio books and novels for the classroom library.
