My students need headphones for us to collaborate in my classroom! I am currently working on flipping my lessons in history class, that way, I can record my brief lectures and the students can simply listen!
I teach at a small, rural school in South Carolina. Our school depicts student from a variety of background. We have 75 percent of our students who are on free lunch or reduced lunch. Many of our students come from broken families in which grandparents, aunts, uncles, or even boyfriend/girlfriend parents are having to raise the children. With that being said, my students are the absolute best. Though their stories may tear at my heartstrings, each day, they come in, ready to learn and ready to make a better life for their family. I love seeing their eyes light up when new experiences are brought before them.
I want my students to have every opportunity available to them.
I want them to be in an environment that allows them to learn in many different ways...because....they are all very different people!
My Project
My students need headphones for my classroom. Not so they can be be turned off and doing their own thing, but so they can be turned on and start to love history again! These headphones will allow my students to listen to several examples of music, guest lecturers, etc that I can bring into the classroom, and once the listening part is over, we can break into hands on learning!
I don't want my students to have a History Teacher like Ferris Bueller.
I am working hard to transform my lessons so that they can understand why is happening in my classroom without listening to me talk for the entire hour and a half. I believe that by getting these headphones to my students, recording my talking points briefly, plus adding relevant music, sound effects, etc to my lessons, I will be able to get my students interested in what we are learning, and then apply that to project based and problem based learning we can do AFTER we have listened to the brief talking points! These simple headphones will allow us to do that in my classroom!
