My students are special because they are so diverse! We are a class that represents many cultures, races, religions, ideals and family types. Some are living in poverty. Some have suffered great loss. Each and everyone is unique and important.
Our classroom is a magical place where this highly diverse group of students can come together as a community, to work towards a common goal.
What is that goal? The goal is to grow in knowledge, each and every day. Of course we learn about reading and writing and grammar and mathematics and science and history! But we also learn about community, about setting goals, about hard work, and about breaking things down and then building them up again. We learn about compassion and brotherly love, about respect and about how to become productive, responsible, thinking individuals.

My Project
If there is one problem in my class, that frustrates the students and I alike, it's headphones! Because our school site has a one-to-one technology ratio, we use our chromebooks A LOT!!! Each year the school provides students with a pair of headphones, either the "over-the-ear" kind (usually designated to primary grades) or ear buds (given to upper elementary students). The ear buds my fifth graders receive cause issues for many reasons. They break easily, with ear pieces breaking apart and wires shorting out; they don't fit in the ears properly, since they are designed for adult-sized ears; they cause students to trip or pull Chromebooks off of desks, when they forget they are tethered; and they are constantly getting lost! I wish I had a dollar for every time a student says, "I can't find my earphones."
Having over-the-ear, wireless headphones will allow my students to listen comfortably, block out distracting noise, and not have to deal with those pesky wires pulling, tangling, and breaking!
They will also be much easier to keep track of, since they are large enough to see if the students forget to return them, or if they fall on the floor. And since there are no wires to get tangled and mangled, they will be easy to check out and check in daily.
Please consider these benefits that my students will enjoy when each student has access to quality, wireless headphones. No more misplacing small ear buds, no more tangled wires shorting out or breaking off, no more dealing with poorly fitting ear buds, and no more "accidental destruction" of Chromebooks! Because we use the Chromebooks heavily throughout our entire school day, these new earphones will have a tremendous affect on our learning and productivity.
