Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach elementary music to ages 6-12 years old. For the past two years and half, my students from 3rd-4th have been focusing on Mariachi Music, History and Culture. This year we added violin classes and have seen so much joy in our students. Our goal is to align our curriculum with our Middle School and High School performing programs and to give our students an equal opportunity to succeed.
The majority of my students come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced lunch.
Our school serves students in grades 1st-5th and provides a safe learning environment. Their love for learning shows as they are curious and playful, always open to a new idea.
This year our students are creating and playing music! Music has been helping our students and reaching more and more every single day. My goal is to give more students the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument and have a great performance space where they can be heard.
My Project
This equipment will help our music department grow not just in numbers, but in level of performance. Not only will music students use the equipment, but also our growing theatre department. We are an elementary school that is in a feeder pattern that is focusing on the fine arts. We are making fine arts accessible to students who would never be exposed to the arts in their lives.
Our fine arts department at our school is growing and expanding and so are our needs.
Every year we have more students interested in music, art, theatre, and dance. Our students are so excited to be doing something that not many schools offer and we want to be able to give them everything they need to succeed in life. Music in schools is important to help students grow as successful human beings.
