Hear Us Go From Barely Tone Horns to Baritone Horns!
Help me give my students 2 marching baritone horns so they can go from being known as the section with the worst instruments to some of the best in the marching band.
I have the most amazing group of student musicians in my band program! Because it is a band, there are students from grades 9 - 12, and they have a varying level of skill and experience. While they come from a wide range of economic backgrounds, you would never know if your saw them interacting with each other. There is such an amazing level of camaraderie as they share their struggles and celebrate their successes together. Our motto is “Unity with Pride” which epitomizes my wonderful students!
My Project
Our marching band is one of the most visible groups in the entire school, performing at all home football games and several “spirit walks” throughout the hallways of the entire school several times during the school year. We also have a pep band that performs at home basketball games. While my marching band has continuously grown each of my four years as a band director at this school (even coming out of a pandemic) we are VERY limited in terms of funds, especially to replace instruments. Quality musical instruments are SO EXPENSIVE! So, that brings my to this wish! Our marching baritone horns are in such a state of disrepair. They are decades old (not even sure how old they are), needing constant repair just to keep them kind of playing and on top of that they just look terrible! They are various brands/models making it extremely challenging to play them in tune, especially since all section members are playing the exact same parts. I feel bad for my students having to be seen with some of our marching baritones. Unlike trumpets and clarinets, marching baritones are ONLY used for marching band (concert band/wind ensemble students play euphoniums). I’ve never had a student provide their own marching baritone horn due to cost. I’m asking for silver plated instruments because that finish is so much more durable than lacquer finish, which is easily scratched. Because these are large instruments, it’s not practical to carry them back and forth between home and school. The old marching baritone horns could be signed out and left home for practice, further improving the section. I’m hoping you can help me give these hard working, dedicated musicians quality Instruments they will be proud to play!
