Help me give my students a musical experience they will remember for a lifetime.
I teach elementary general music in a suburb of Seattle, an area of the country where the tech industry is continuing to expand. As the neighbourhoods and surrounding communities grow in population, the needs of local schools are also coming to the forefront.
I teach quite a diverse group of students with various musical talents and skills.
The student population at my school is made up of Washington natives, as well as newcomers to the Pacific Northwest from other states and countries.
My students already love playing BOOMwhackers and other percussion instruments. They are craving more instrument experiences and this could be the next big joy for them.
I loved my time playing and performing in a hand bell choir back home. I want to share this experience with my students now.
Learning how to play hand bells is an exciting way for students to make music, practice and improve hand/eye coordination, and work as a team to create a beautiful sound.
With percussion instruments students learn the basics of steady beat and rhythm. They also learn to work independently and as a team to build musicianship and socialization.
Offering students another outlet for performance is another way I can help to build their musical skills as well as their confidence and self-esteem.
