Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are little troopers that meet any challenge I give them. I am a teacher in one of the poorest areas in Phoenix. I have a great team and district that does its best to provide for us but funds are always short. My students know how to make do with less and how to make the best with what they have.
My kiddos got off to a rocky start but they have come a long way.
Five substitutes, a month into the school year and I finally became their teacher. Understandably, it has been a challenge! My students come from poor families, many of whom live in Section 8 housing. The struggles they go through are sobering.
My Project
Having a set of headphones will allow us to establish a listening center in our classroom. My kiddos desperately need as much literacy in their lives as possible. Having a listening center will give them a chance to hear stories of their choosing. This in combination with a soft carpet and sight-word games will have these kindergartners loving reading in no time.
Donating to my project means my students will have access to a listening center which helps develop their listening skills, models fluency, and exposes them to new vocabulary.
Kindergarten is such a wonderful time in child's life, so please help me with my project to make it a little extra special.
