This past year was a year of change. New classroom, new school and new students! These kiddos were amazing and so eager to learn. Although my roster was made up of 2nd graders, some creative intervention grouping allowed me to work with some of the 1st graders. Some of which will be in my 2nd grade class this upcoming school year.
Reflecting upon my incoming students, I can say that these children are like the colorful assortment of vegetables growing in my garden, each with their own unique characteristics.
The one thing they do have in common is that they are all tech savvy. Let's face it. Children are digital experts and in order to keep them engaged and curious about the world around them, we need to provide them with the ability to access information outside the classroom through digital tools.
This is what I love about my students. They have such a high comfort level with technology that it makes me step up my game as a teacher. As much as I try and teach them new things every day, I am also learning new things from them every day.
My Project
Accessing digital information requires students to clearly hear what is being communicated to them through the headphones they are using. With this headphone kit, students will listen to fluent reading, whether their own or someone else's. They will be able to clearly hear directions being read to them on a specific site or on digital assessments. Multiple students will access various media, depending on individual learning needs and it will not be disruptive to others.
This headphone kit will supply headphones for students and put all learners on the same playing field when accessing audio media.
Often when students bring this type of equipment from home, it is not the best for a school setting. Sometimes the sound quality is not good, the buds keep falling out or hurt their ears, or the headphones just are cheap and break after a few uses. These issues will be eliminated and students will comfortably and successfully access sound media.
Please help me provide the best possible to these young learners.
