Help me give my students microphones to protect and project their voices for plays and assemblies!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with one hundred percent of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch, and a large amount of homeless students. Our Collegiate Program gives the children a great chance to begin college courses while still in high school. Our Theatre Arts program gives students their first chances at auditioning in front of colleges, competitions and the ability to learn to speak in front of crowds. The program has a low-support rate for the children on stage and until recently, had issues drawing more than twenty people to a performance. These students are hard-working and spend their time memorizing and practicing characterization, projection and objectives.
These students are under-supported in the community and sometimes, at home; yet, they come and give 100% to every rehearsal, even on the weekends.
As a teacher, my students are hopeful, dreamy and inquisitive, exactly what I hope for. It is for them that these projects are made, so that they have the same opportunity for hands-on experiences that schools in more affluent areas receive.
These wireless microphones and short wired body microphones would completely change the auditory capabilities in my auditorium. When we have school plays during the day, even with the best projection, it is hard to speak over the murmur of hundreds of teenagers. With working microphones, my actors would be able to confidently and safely project over the noise and murmur to have their hard work appreciated.
These microphones are exactly enough for a normal cast size so that the students could each have their own lapel or face mic to sanitarily broadcast each of their voices.
This equipment would be such a boost to the confidence of the entire school. The lack of equipment and proper technology is a drag on the spirits of many students and teachers at my school. The wireless microphone would even help with staff meetings and score reporting as many administrators need help amplifying their voices for the dozens of teachers at the school. This amplification would truly brighten the spirits of so many students, teachers and administrators a like in my low-budget school!
