This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my classroom are bursting with musical talent and creative ideas. Because they have shown incredible proficiency in reading music, writing lyrics, playing instruments, and singing, I want to provide them with appropriate materials to cultivate these skills encourage their growth and confidence.
These students are the future of music.
I know the names, faces, and musical capabilities of every single student in K-5 and students from every grade in 6-8. We should be very excited, and very determined to help them in any way we can.
My Project
Currently, my music class is all or nothing. We sing, dance, compose, and listen as a group. There are incredible benefits to this, but also frustrating cons. We have been learning how to read rhythms and make beats as a class. It is now time for those students to apply the musical skills they know to create their own music. However, we have hit a roadblock without headphones.
You just cannot truly compose your own music when 23 other students are also trying to do the same thing in the same room.
Creative thinking is essential to music - allowing students to plug in and explore their own ideas with music will open up new capabilities in their mind and new possibilities for their life. I would love to hear the unique creations of each and every one of my students.
