This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a registered nurse that work with students in the elementary to middle school grades. They all have different interests and are eager to learn new things. Our school is situated in an urban community that enrolls students from a low socioeconomic level. 98% of our students receive free or reduced cost lunch which means that they are at or below the national poverty level. 91% of our students are African American.
My students are at an age where it is especially important that they learn to take care of their bodies.
My Project
My students are at an age where it is especially important that they learn to take care of their bodies. As a school nurse, my responsibility is to teach them about personal hygiene and instill in them a sense of pride in knowing that they look and feel their best. A healthy and clean body helps to build their confidence, self-esteem, and improves immunity against certain diseases. Their bodies are going through many changes as they transition into puberty. This is a difficult time in their lives, and having access to these personal care products will help to alleviate some of the difficulties.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
