This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a group of 20-25 2nd graders with and without disabilities in a large, urban school district in the Piedmont of NC. Due to the severe budget cuts our district is facing, many basic and supplemental 2nd grade materials cannot be purchased. My students come from a neighborhood that has a high poverty rate. We are a Title I school. One hundred percent of the students at our school receive free lunch.
The safest place for our students is at our school.
Each day, we shower and nurture the students with love. We also boost their confidence and set high expectations for them. Our goal is to make them college and career ready. For most of them, they will be the first one in their family to attend college.
My Project
My students need healthier snack options and soft comfy cushions for reading.
Have you ever been hungry?
Research states that students who are fed may learn better.
The students I teach come to school with a positive attitude about learning.
They are exciting and eager to learn and help others to learn. Our school is located in a large metropolitan city in NC. We are a large school with a wide range of ethnicities and cultural diversity.
There is nothing worse than being hungry and you're still trying to focus on the teacher. Students need to have access to snacks. Because my class eats lunch almost 5 hours before dismissal, it is important that they receive additional nourishment. The snacks that have been requested are, or will be, portion controlled to stay within the recommended daily allowance for kids. Having the snacks will also provide additional support for parents who may have difficulty purchasing additional items. You can help keep the students from being hungry during the afternoon part of the learning day.
The soft cushions, big comfy pillows that hold books, and the bean bag chairs will help to keep them warm while reading around the room. At times we read and work around the room instead of seating in our seats all day. The soft cushions and chairs will help students focus but also allow them to have flexible seating options.
Your donation will allow students to better focus on instruction and learning. Thank you for supporting my proposal.
