My students need a variety of snacks to help them refuel during their instructional time so that they can stay focused, not hungry, during their academic instructional time
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are your average, middle school students who come to school eager to learn and interact positively in their school environment. However, this can be challenging for many of my students as they attend a school in a high poverty area and lack resources and experiences that many other students have.
My students want to learn and do their best, but this can be difficult when they often hungry and may not have gotten enough to eat at home.
Many of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status. However, many of them find that it is difficult to make it to lunch (we currently have the latest lunch of the day) without getting hungry. This makes the energy and focus that they need to focus on their learning difficult. These snacks would help provide a little extra for them! Hopefully, these nutritious snacks will give the extra energy they need to push through and be inspired learners all day long.
My Project
A variety of healthy foods will give my students the extra energy they need in order to optimize their learning in the classroom. We will enjoy snacking on items such as Pepperidge Goldfish Crackers, Austin Zoo Animal Crackers, Rold Gold Tiny Twist Pretzels, Sunshine Cheez-It Crackers, Kellogg's Mixed Berry Fruit Snacks, Frito Lay Chips, Rice Krispy Treats, Oreo Mini-Cookies, and Nabisco Ritz Bits Cheese Crackers. This varied selection of goodies will provide my students with plenty of choices for extra daily nourishment.
Many of our students don't get enough to eat at home and they breakfast/lunch they receive at school isn't enough to alleviate that hunger that some of them still feel when they are trying to focus on learning in the classroom.
Learning is impossible when a student's basic needs aren't being met. These snacks will go a long way towards helping our classrooms be a healthy and and productive place for collaboration and learning.
