My students attend a rural Title I school where the percentage of kiddos who qualify for free or reduced priced lunch services is close to a staggering eighty percent.
Every year my students are eager to learn, eager to work hard, and genuinely want to succeed.
I want to be able to offer my students, many of whom come from disadvantaged homes, every possible tool to have a successful educational foundation. Because once I am a child's teacher, they are my "kids" forever!
My Project
My students are so eager to learn! Unfortunately, there are times when these little learners have distractions. The distraction may be rain outside, an upset tummy, not enough sleep, or a rumbling tummy. As their teacher, I can't do much to help fix the first three distractions. However, by having plenty of healthy snacks on hand, I can make sure they have something to satisfy the hunger that takes their mind off learning.
Many students do not get a healthy breakfast, if any breakfast at all.
With the addition of healthy snacks, like granola bars, baked chips, and peanut butter breakfast bars, I can make sure my students will have something healthy to eat. I can also make sure that some of my most vulnerable kids can have healthy snacks to take home in their backpack over the weekend.
