Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My classes are comprised of Special Education, ESL, and low performing inner city kids. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Often lacking basic supplies and access to technology my students just want to succeed. My students work hard and I try my best to provide them with access to materials that will help them be better students.
My Project
Concentrating is hard to do when you are hungry. My students often show up to school hungry. I want to provide my students with healthy snacks in the morning and during lunch time to encourage and support them. My classroom is safe space for my students and offering snacks motivates them to stop by tutoring or to say hi when they are having a difficult day.
Some students do not have stable living situations, no one home to help or they need extra support.
Every day I encourage my students as well as students from other classes to come to my room early in the morning or during lunch. This allows students to avoid the chaos of the cafeteria a quiet space to work on assignments. Snacks will help my students focus on their work and keep their stomachs from grumbling.
Snacks motivate kids to keep working and helps them concentrate.
