My Students
My students are a variety of young people of all different races who are primarily from the city's west side. Our school is located in North Lawndale, a low-income area that has been historically under served. Correspondingly, many of our students come from humble backgrounds and often do not have the means for adequate school supplies. Furthermore, since North Lawndale has limited fresh produce options, several of our students go hungry and are malnourished. Nevertheless, despite the many odds against them, our students are resilient and strive to be successful scholars and gracious, young adults.
My Project
My students are craving snacks during each school day, and I want to reward them for working hard in class and after school. I've previously had a DonorsChoose.org project funded for healthy snacks, and it made a great difference in my classroom. I have a healthy snack incentive in my class when students work hard. It's a challenge logistically and on my budget for me to keep buying the snacks for the students. Receiving donations will help support the incentive to reward students who are on task. Students' successes should be celebrated, and providing healthy snacks is a great way to do so!
