Serving 300 students in K through 5th grade, our school is located in Boston. We are proudly one of the most diverse school communities in our neighborhood. On a daily basis, we pride ourselves in the embodiment of our vision statement:
We provide a quality education in a safe and supportive environment, which respects the diversity of all individuals.
We develop responsible citizens and leaders, involve parents and community, and instill a love of learning in a nurturing atmosphere. We expect academic excellence and celebrate student achievement.
We pride ourselves on being a community that celebrates the 16 different languages spoken among our families. Additionally, 30% of our students are English Language Learners and 47% are economically disadvantaged. With our model of inclusion, we provide a nurturing and academically rigorous learning environment where our typically developing peers and our students with disabilities, which make up 25% of our student population, learn alongside, and from, one another.
My Project
These snacks will offer students access to nutritious food during our 7 hour day. Snacks can help decrease students' hunger, making them more available for learning. The nutritious snacks will be provided for hungry 8 and 9 year old students whose families may not have the money to buy their own. Annie's Organic Snack Packs are made without artificial flavors and colors and provide some necessary nutrition to developing children.
Hunger directly impacts a child's ability to learn.
Studies show that students who struggle with hunger are more likely to have lowered ability to focus and learn. Through this project, snacks will be offered throughout the day to keep students focused and help them succeed.
