This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have twenty-five Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) students in my classroom. My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. Our school brings a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences, and culture. We are a Title I school in a low-income community. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.
My students are creative, clever, and very enthusiastic about learning.
The majority of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in school. My students need to have technology experiences that help foster 21st-century critical thinkers. I want all of my students to be able to use technology in our classroom daily.
My Project
My students need snacks to get them through the day. Often our students come from housing insecurities and need snacks to help them learn. Many of my students do not bring snacks to school, and if they do, they are certainly not healthy. Over the course of the day students are busy learning, and while they are learning their stomach starts to growl and they need some extra energy to help them get through the day.
Having extra snacks in the classroom gives me the opportunity to have extra snacks to send food home with students who may need extra food to get them through the night at home.
Often students' main sources of food come from school, so having extra snacks gives students the security of knowing there are extra snacks to keep them nourished.
Many students in my classroom would feel very grateful if they received nutritious healthy snacks that they do not often receive at home. If we had classroom snacks available for all students no child would feel left out or neglected because they do not have a snack. In addition, all learners would be engaged and enthusiastic to learn! Your donation would help give my students the energy they need to learn, play, and stay active at home and at school.
