Healthy Snacks and Classroom for All!

My Students

My average day in the classroom begins when I welcome my eighth-grade students including regular students, students receiving special education services, and students with emotional needs. I want all of my students to succeed.

My students like to participate in the school drama club, which is why I sponsor this activity.

I teach in a large, diverse, K-8 high-poverty school in an urban area that experiences crime. Our school receives Title I funding, and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn, from various living situations such as single-parent homes, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living.

My students are the most eccentric, funny, and smart kids you would ever want to meet. Skill levels and overall levels of support vary by student. One thing that is universal is our desire to work together. On the first day of school, we identified ourselves as a family. We are a family that takes care of one another and looks out for one another; this is what we do. We work together to accomplish our goals.

My Project

It is so important that my students have a little pick-me-up when they need it during the day. If I keep some snacks, they will not be hungry during the day and can focus on the class instead of their hunger.

Something like a simple bag of chips can change and improve an entire day.

I am so excited to be able to give these snacks to them during the trying times of COVID-19. I will keep snacks and give them to whoever needs them in the snack bags. I am grateful to be able to help them out with this small gesture. So many kids will benefit from this project. Things like dried fruit, raisins, popcorn, and other small items will help make a difference in their day.

We can also use the supplies here to create a welcoming and safe classroom environment with the scents to keep the room smelling fresh and the paper towels for cleaning up messes.
