This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 2nd graders. They attend an urban school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come from many different backgrounds and face many different challenges in their day to day lives.
There are many single income families, families that are receiving assistance in one form or another, and families that are or were homeless at one time.
Regardless of the challenges these students face, they always come to school with smiles on their faces. They are eager to learn and when given an even playing field, they are capable of great things! I want to help even the field for them and their education.
My Project
In my classroom my students are allowed to bring in a snack everyday for themselves. We are the last lunch period of the day and that can make for many hungry 2nd graders. However, many of my students do not have a snack when snack time rolls around. They look to me to fill this void. I do the best I can, however the need is greater than my ability.
The snacks I have requested will help my students that are unable to bring in a snack of their own for whatever reason be it homelessness, availability, or they simply forgot.
The container I am asking for will enable me to store them and keep them fresh for the students until they are needed. No child should go hungry and I can not have one child watch another eat or go without just because they could not bring something in. These snacks would be an enormous help in keeping the students' minds on learning and not their hungry tummies.
