Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is located in the heart of the Yakima Valley, on the Yakama Nation Indian Reservation. My third-grade students come from a variety of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. A full 100% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, which means most of our families are considered low-income status.
I believe the more time students spend reading, the better readers they will become.
With the majority of my students' parents working in the agriculture industry, there isn't very much time spent reading at home. Therefore, many of my students enter third grade as English language learners who are reading below the correct grade level.
I strive to make my classroom a safe place for students to learn and grow. My students come into class each day eager to learn more and strive to reach their goals.
My Project
With the exciting news that our school district will be moving slowly into in person learning my students are in need of healthy snacks that are individually wrapped for classroom breaks.
Even with the challenges and hardships my students face such as COVID, school closures, and stay at home orders they are eager to continue learning.
The snacks provided by this project will help my students continue to have consistent food intake and energy while transitioning to onsite learning.
I am confidant that the funding of this project will help my students be ready to complete this school year as we transition closer to our "normal" onsite learning.
