My Students

“Without music, life would be a mistake” ― Friedrich Nietzsche. I have the honor of teaching music to almost every student at a Title I public Montessori school. I teach music to 3 and 4-year-olds through eighth-graders. This is my ninth year of teaching and my second year at my current school. I have around 20 to 26 students in each class at a time, who come from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, and are all very proud to go to our school, which serves as their home away from home.

Music reaches my students in ways that traditional academic classes do not.

All my students are very enthusiastic to be in music class, singing and playing instruments.

My Project

With everything going on in the world with the coronavirus, I believe it is imperative to get every 4th-8th grader that goes through my class their very own recorder. I want to do my part to make sure that my kids are staying healthy.

Although you can easily wash a recorder in the dishwasher, I'm pretty sure the parents of my students won't want to take that chance anymore due to all of the sickness.

I would love to see this vital instrument in every one of my upper elementary students' hands. It is making me very sad right now that I wasn't able to hand out any instruments to my students to have during this long extended e-learning time.
