Healthy Opportunities: Basic Care Products for Kids in Need
Help me give my students access to personal care items like dish soap, cleaning products, and toothpaste to improve the quality of their everyday lives inside the classroom and help them grow.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In the 2018-2019 school year, I will be teaching in an inclusion second-grade classroom at our elementary school. We are located on the west side of Indianapolis. Approximately 90% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch, utilize our free food pantry, and are offered services through our social worker and Cummins counseling. Therefore, I would like to follow suit by providing my students with the materials, resources, and accommodations that they need to have a successful second-grade year. I am requesting donations for personal care and hygiene items. Many of our students are in need of these basic care items and find themselves without. These items will provide them with a happier and healthier life.
My Project
These personal care items will help our students stay clean and increase their self-image. Everyone should have access to these essential items and be given the opportunity to live a healthy and clean life both inside and outside of the classroom. These items include Tide pods for laundry, dishwasher detergent, body wash and bar soap, toothbrushes, and shampoo.
This project will provide our students with not only their basic needs, but emotional well-being, positive atmosphere, confidence, and so much more!
Our students live in multi-family member homes, foster homes, and motels/hotels.
These living situation often leave them without these simple items, which makes it extremely difficult to live a productive, confident, and happy life. We hope by providing these basic hygiene items that we can make life a little easier.
