My Students

Ninety-four percent of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch. Sixty-three percent of the students are English as a Second Language students. Some of the students are homeless. There are a lot of special needs students at my school.

The neighborhood that the school is located in was hit by a tornado a few years ago.

Some of the students live with grandparents or in single-parent homes. A lot of the parents are unemployed due to the recession and the economy.

My Project

The essential healthy snacks (granola bars and fruit snacks) will help the children obtain the vitamins and minerals they need in order to be successful in school. The students do not have access to enough food at home. 93% of the kids are on free or reduced lunch status. There are homeless students at the school. It is hard for the students to concentrate when their stomachs are empty. They need the nutrients in order for them to focus on academics.

Essential healthy snacks will help the children come to school prepared to learn and gain knowledge.

It is a big challenge for educators to help their students learn when their students say that they are hungry. If the students are lacking food, they will not be willing or able to learn. They need the snacks.
