Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are adventurous fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students. They work diligently to overcome the challenges of their disabilities and strive to be their best. They challenge me daily, and I enjoy finding ways to help them. Teaching multiple grade levels to students who are at, below, and above grade level and adjusting my teaching to meet their social and emotional needs, is demanding and rewarding at the same time.
Nearly all of my students are from low-income households and are transported to our school from all parts of our school district.
Luckily, my school community is very supportive and encouraging. When people say, "It takes a village...," I have learned that it truly takes a village in order to meet the needs of every student in my classroom. For this reason, I do my best to be creative to provide them what they need and to make our classroom a positive learning environment. DonorsChoose.org and supporters allow me to get closer to meeting the needs of every student I come in contact with because I try to help all students at my school not just those in my classroom.
My Project
I am responsible for targeting the social-emotional needs of students in my classroom. I do not have a budget or funding for curriculum, decor, and activities for students to engage in when they're in a negative emotional state. My students are often overwhelmed with big emotions and don't have the emotional abilities to process them. I want them to have a safe, welcoming, space for students.
When my students are calm and confident, they're able to learn and thrive academically.
I can see them achieving many of their personal goals and going on to be successful. I intend to provide them with the most supports so that they can navigate their feelings and emotions. Being mindful of all those feelings will empower them to be successful.
