Help me give my students an alternative to sitting at a student desk for seven hours a day in ALE while adding some well needed physical exercise to their day.
In our Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) I have 22 High School students that have failed several core courses, dropped out of school and returned, are at risk of dropping out, have been in jail or are on probation, or have suffered trauma in their lives. My students also come from homes where parents or guardians are not working. They may have not received any mentoring for common workplace skills, soft skills or even common behavior skills. It is my core belief that I must help mentor my ALE students for the workplace, as well teach common behavior and social emotional learning skills, and take care of their basic needs and promote healthy physical activities.
My students often sit in ALE for seven periods a day making up credits.
Many of our students are not involved in sports or other activities. I am looking for ways to create healthy learning and brain breaks while treating them like responsible young adults and encouraging healthy habits and promoting physical exercise.
My Project
Our students sit in ALE for seven periods a day making up credits. Many of our students are not involved in sports or other activities. I am looking for ways to create healthy learning and brain breaks while treating them like responsible young adults and encouraging healthy habits. If they could work on their credit recovery and classwork while using the exercise workstation bikes they would be getting some physical activity while at school. We provide brief brain breaks throughout the day, however with the workstation bikes students would be able to release some energy and stress while working on class work.
