During this unprecedented time, I am searching for a way to keep my students safe and healthy within the walls of our K-5 elementary school. I will be working with all students in our building on a four week rotation. My students are active mountain kids, with a passion for the outdoors. During this time of "shut down" many of my students spent hours playing outside, hiking trails nearby, riding bikes around town and exploring our natural environment. My students are very much looking forward to coming back to school, working with their classroom teachers, engaging on collaborative activities with their peers and of course, having fun!
As an International Baccalaureate school, we are dedicated to providing our students with a more global approach to learning.
The transdisciplinary framework considers the development of the whole child. Teachers provide inquiry-led learning opportunities where students can take more responsibility for their learning. This agency is encouraged even in kindergarten.
We are small neighborhood school diverse interests. Our families are dedicated to the quality education that our school provides for their children and we encourage the partnership we have with our community. I feel fortunate to work with all 270 students each year.
My Project
Our small neighborhood school is nestled in the mountain of Colorado. We are responsible for the education of over 270 students from grades Prek-5. Throughout the school year, I am lucky enough to facilitate the learning for all Kindergarten though Fifth grade students. We are in desperate need of a large room air purifier (Alen BreatheSmart Classic Large Room Air Purifier) for our learning space.
This year, we will be attending school in-person 4 days a week, with one day set aside for online learning.
As a classroom teacher, I am responsible not only for the safety of my students, but also the deep cleaning that needs to occur throughout the day. Most classroom have windows and doors that expose the outdoor air and provide circulation throughout the classroom. My classroom is an interior room, with one door to a closed hallway and no circulation.
It is my goal to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for my students and myself during this unprecedented time. We all wear masks, keep 6 feet of separation and spend as much time outside as possible. We know that soon, our weather here in the mountains will change and limit our time out of the building. Thank you for this opportunity to provide clean air for this classroom.
